Therapy for students in Florida

The plan your school enrolled you in already covers therapy. Most students never use it.

Online sessions from your dorm or apartment, in-network with the student health plans at UF, FSU, USF, UCF, FIU, FAU, the University of Miami, and more.

Your student health plan

A counseling center shared with forty thousand students, a session cap, a therapist who's never had to explain their family to anyone — you have another option, and you're already paying for it.

If your school enrolled you in a student health insurance plan, it's a full health plan, and it covers outpatient therapy with any in-network provider — not just the campus center. We're in-network with the two carriers behind nearly every Florida student plan. Find your school below, then book; we verify the exact benefits before your first session. Studying in New York instead? The New York list is here.

UnitedHealthcare StudentResources

Most of Florida's public universities run on UnitedHealthcare.

UnitedHealthcare is the carrier behind the State University System's biggest campuses and most of the large privates for 2026–27 — UCF and FIU's international plan both moved to it this year. These plans use UnitedHealthcare's network, which we're in.

  • University of Florida (UF)
  • University of South Florida (USF)
  • University of Central Florida (UCF) — new for 2026–27
  • FIU — international students (new for 2026–27)
  • Florida Atlantic University (FAU)
  • Florida A&M University (FAMU)
  • University of Miami
  • Nova Southeastern University
  • University of Tampa
  • Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
  • Florida Tech
  • Barry University
  • Lynn University
  • Eckerd College
  • Flagler College
  • Florida Southern College
  • Ringling College of Art and Design
  • St. Thomas University (international)
  • Rollins College (international)
Aetna Student Health

FSU switched to Aetna this year — same benefits, and we're in-network.

Aetna Student Health picked up Florida State for 2026–27 and underwrites several other schools. These plans run on the Aetna network, which we're in. UWF's international plan is administered by LewerMark but also uses Aetna's network.

  • Florida State University (FSU) — new for 2026–27
  • University of North Florida (UNF)
  • Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) — international
  • FIU — sponsored domestic plan
  • Jacksonville University
  • Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine (OCOM)
  • Chamberlain University
  • University of West Florida (UWF) — LewerMark plan on the Aetna network
How it works

Four things, none of them hard.

Step 1

Find your insurance card

It's in your school's health portal or the carrier app. The carrier name on it is all we need to start — send a photo to info@liumentalhealth.com if you'd like us to check first.

Step 2

Book through Headway

Headway handles the insurance billing, so you see your copay up front. Most student plans put outpatient therapy at a flat copay per session.

Step 3

Be in Florida at session time

Dorm, apartment, a quiet corner of the library with headphones — anywhere in the state works. Sessions are 50 minutes over secure, HIPAA-compliant video.

Step 4

Keep going through the year

Student plans typically run August to August, so coverage continues over winter break and the summer as long as you're in Florida or New York. Graduating? We'll talk about what changes before it does.

Student questions

Does my Florida student health plan cover therapy outside the campus counseling center?

Almost always, yes. UnitedHealthcare StudentResources and Aetna Student Health plans are full health plans with outpatient mental health benefits, so you can see an in-network therapist in the community the same way you'd see any doctor. The campus center is one option, not the only one.

Is Liu Mental Health Counseling in-network with UnitedHealthcare StudentResources?

Yes. We're in-network with UnitedHealthcare, and UHCSR plans — UF, USF, UCF, FIU international, FAU, FAMU, University of Miami, Nova Southeastern, University of Tampa, Embry-Riddle, Florida Tech and others — use UnitedHealthcare's network. Billing goes through Headway, so you pay only your plan's copay. We confirm your specific plan before the first session.

What about Aetna Student Health at FSU, UNF, or FGCU?

We're in-network with Aetna, and Aetna Student Health plans run on the Aetna network. FSU switched to Aetna for 2026–27 with the same benefits as before; UNF, FGCU's international plan, FIU's sponsored domestic plan, Jacksonville University, OCOM, and Chamberlain use it too. Same process: we check your benefits, then you book.

Will my parents see that I'm in therapy?

A student health plan is usually in your own name, so statements typically come to you, not to a parent. If you're on a parent's plan instead, the policyholder may receive an explanation of benefits — tell us and we'll walk you through what it does and doesn't show.

Do I have to be on campus for sessions?

No — sessions are online. The one rule is that you need to be physically in Florida (or New York) at the time of the session, because that's where we're licensed. A dorm in Gainesville, an apartment in Tampa, or a library in Miami all work; a summer at home in another state means we pause and pick back up when you're back.

My school isn't on the list, or has no student plan.

Some Florida schools (Ave Maria, Palm Beach Atlantic, Full Sail, Southeastern) don't sponsor a plan, and most state and community colleges only require coverage for international students. If you're on a marketplace or family plan with Aetna, Oscar, or UnitedHealthcare, we're likely in-network. Whatever the card says, email a photo to us and we'll tell you within a day.

Carrier assignments reflect school health-office publications for 2026–27 and change yearly; a few schools' 2026–27 details were still pending when this was written. We confirm your plan before you're charged anything.
